Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a collection of remote computing services that make up a reliable, scalable, low-cost cloud computing platform. Business is booming: hundreds of thousands of customers in 190 countries have joined the AWS community over the past ten years. This robust growth, however, presented an overwhelming workload for AWS’s small in-house design team. This team, which provides assistance to AWS engineers, product managers, executives and others, was stretched to capacity – and had less and less time to spend on high-level creative work. Long queues were forming as the team struggled to meet the demands of its growing list of stakeholders, particularly during business spikes. In urgent need of a time- and cost-saving solution, AWS asked Filter to help them resolve these backlogs and optimize their design workflows.
We began by working closely with the AWS design team to solidify their brand standards and refine their unique look and feel to differentiate themselves from the competition. We then helped AWS translate older assets into the new design style and developed templates that reduce the time and effort of creating on-brand materials. With a focus on AWS’s long-term needs, our process architects implemented new workflows to better facilitate creative oversight and control. Next, we used our proven managed team approach to alleviate AWS’s intense in-house workload. We built a team of highly skilled Filter freelancers and provided them with thorough training on AWS’s design guidelines, platforms and processes. Able to adapt quickly to fluctuating demands, this team enables AWS to augment its in-house capacity with the right people, at the right times. AWS offers its customers the ability to scale up and down seamlessly to match their business needs – and with this model, Filter offers the same flexibility to AWS.

We are now working directly with AWS stakeholders throughout the company in multiple departments, including AWS's business and marketing team. Filter is also assisting with content production, and we’re beginning a blog program that will involve both writing and publishing.
