Filter enabled REI to simultaneously create a new website and keep their existing website and digital support running at full capacity.
Facing an intense workload, REI needed help maintaining their current site while their internal team created the new site.
We assembled a team of digital contractors who not only executed the work quickly and effectively, but also integrated seamlessly within the company.
REI was so happy with our work that they extended the contracts of nearly every member of the Filter team into the following year.
When it comes to climbing a mountain, it's safe to say that the people at REI are experts on what you'll need to make it to the top. Since 1938, the multichannel retailer has been known for providing top-quality gear to use and wear in the great outdoors. But in 2015, when the company was planning on redesigning their website, they came up against a "mountain" they weren't exactly sure how to summit: they needed to both create their new website and keep their existing website and digital support running at full capacity. Combined, it was a job too large for the existing team to accomplish by the deadline they needed to meet. REI came up with a bold plan: they would focus their existing digital team on the website redesign, and would hire an entirely new team of contractors – designers, content creators and site maintenance specialists – to keep the current site up and running. To some, this might sound like a staffing (and management) nightmare. But REI turned to Filter; and because we thoughtfully match our talent with roles they'll excel in – providing companies with the right people at the right time for the right engagements – REI's plan went off without a hitch.
Filter understood that in order to accomplish their plan, REI needed more than a disparate group of contractors: they needed a focused, self-directed and flexible team of specialists that could ramp up quickly and keep everything related to the existing site – an anticipated 150 projects of various shapes, sizes and levels of complexity – running smoothly and executed on time and on-brand. Filter's Talent Managers got right to work building a team of highly skilled professional freelancers, ensuring that each member was the right person for the role.
Filter's team integrated seamlessly, designing and delivering the high quality creative that REI.com is recognized for. The partnership was so effective that once the new site was launched, REI's Digital Retail team extended the contracts of nearly every member of the Filter team, with work continuing into 2016.
